Health Challenge

New year, new resolutions, right?
Well here is my health challenge that I am doing with someone whom I am not sure would want to be named on my blog yet so we will just keep him a secret for a little bit longer. It's like hewhomustnotbenamed! haha love harry potter!

Week 1: Workout at least 3 times this week.
Week 2: Eat veggies or fruits with every meal.
Week 3: No caffeine-water only!
Week 4: Sleep 7 hours each night or more!
Week 5: Work out at least 4 times this week.
Week 6:No desserts!
Week 7: Drink 8 cups of water each day.
Week 8: Be active and do 10 miles of something (running, biking, walking, etc.).
Week 9: Eat breakfast every day (this will be hard for me!).
Week 10: Eat small meals every 3 hours for 3 days.
Week 11: No Caffeine!
Week 12: Workout 5 times this week.

It's seems pretty realistic to do and is hitting on physical health and nutrition.
Let me know if you have any suggestions on how I can improve this.

February List

I still have another day until the end of January, but I wanted to share with you what I have accomplished on my list this month.

1.) Finish the last book of the hunger games.
2.) Use the Anderson gym at least two times a week.
3.) Eat breakfast! --I am not crossing this off because I only did it twice.
4.) Drink more water
5.) Make at least one pinterest meal.
6.) Save more, spend less.
7.) Wake up and pray
8.) Take more pictures
9.) Be encouraging
10.) Stay classy. Dress to impress and work some new hair dos.

As you can see, I did not accomplish much. So here's to February and hoping I can achieve the entire list this time!

1.) Stick to my health challenge (which I will share with you in my next post)
2.) Eat Breakfast at least twice a week (specifics are always helpful for me)
3.) Invite one person over for dinner each week
4.) Try hair-up do's. I really got into wearing my hair down a lot and I now have an excuse to try new hair styles now that my hair is long.
5.) Have a positive attitude about work. Lately anything having to do with work just puts me in a bad mood.

I think a list of five things is acceptable this month as it is my birthday month and I can only handle so much!

MLK Jr. Day

Every year AU's campus has a guest speaker for MLK Jr. Day/week.
This week our guest speaker spoke to me and of the bravery he had to Do justice, Love mercy, and to Walk humbly. Not only did Martin Luther King Jr. stand up for justice, but Rosa Parks and many others took a stand against injustice.

I began to wonder if I would have the guts to do the same if I felt the need to. Would I refuse to move from my seat or speak to thousands of people? Would I be willing to risk my life for justice?
It scares me to say that I am not sure I would have the courage to risk my life. Has my own life become more important than another's? What makes mine more valuable?
I always say I would take a bullet for a loved one, but how can you know this is true until the moment actually occurs.
This has really got me thinking about how I put myself first before others often. I want to put others first just like God.
I hope I can learn how to put others first and began to walk the path Jesus did.

The Career World

One thing I have never really thought about is my life in the career world as a woman.
I have always believed that women have found their way in this business world and earned their place. Am I wrong for thinking this?
Is the business world like that?

I have never been scared of getting a job, but now I am.
I do not want to get a job and then be stuck at the bottom not able to move up because of my gender.
Maybe my faith in the business world is reliable and I will not have a problem, but I could always be wrong.

I am curious if anyone has experienced this in their job whether you are male or female.
Please let me know. My curiosity asks for it!

It's about who you are

I am in a class called Women in the Arts this semester. I only took it to fulfill a liberal arts requirement, but I think I am actually going to like it.

Dr. Ranney made a quote saying "It's about who you are."
Well I thought I'd share who I am.

I am college Senior ready to graduate.
I am a daughter, sister, and aunt.
I am Dr. Pepper fan and caffeine addict.
I am brunette at heart and a girl of fashion.
I am a lover of people and the change in this world.
I am a friend too many and a best to a few.
I am a giraffe and music fan.
I am a Christian and a follower of God.
I am special to someone and the thoughts of another.
I am a reality-t.v. watcher.

Those are just a few of the things that I am.

Who are you? What are you all about?

Best Friends

I started my last semester of my Undergrad this past week and a lot hit me.
One of the things that hit me hard was the realization that this will be the last time I go to school with my two best friends. It is the last time we can enjoy chapel together or walk around campus as students together. The tears are not coming yet, but the reality of our different paths is sinking in.

Tess is going to California to begin a career in the film industry. She and I will be the closest for at least 3 years, but a 16 hour drive is not one you can do in a day. We have been best friends since 3rd grade and I am not ready to be apart. I want to still share a house with my best friend and be called out in our Psychology classes for talking or laughing too much. I want people to continue to know me because they know Tessa or vice-verse.

Michelle is staying in Indiana and going to graduate school. She became my best friend and my first roommate ever. We were fast friends and made it through freshman year together, side by side. Not only do I leave her, but I leave the little love-bug she created. My love for her mother spread to her quickly and she was what brought all three of us together.

While I know I still have time before we do our real goodbyes, I can feel the tears coming. It will be an exciting time for all of us, but we will all miss each other more than we can imagine.

Front Doors

Have you ever walked up to a front door and just stopped?
Stopped in fear of what was behind them or for what would come at you once they opened?
There are a pair of front doors that I have been scared of for a while now.
The Church Front Doors.

Ever since the church event our family went through I have been nervous every time I approach those doors.
I think of the hurt that could come.
I think of the relationships that could be built.
I think of the hurt I've experienced.
I think of the relationships that were lost.

Is it worth that step through the door?
Is it even worth opening it?

All the what if's and worries float into me and I back away. Eventually I get the nerve to push through, but I wonder when I wont question those front doors. I wonder when the fear will release and when I can trust the church again.

Thankfully, I have blessed with front doors that I am not fearful of for the last four years.
The doors to Reardon Auditorium, our Chapel at Anderson.
These doors welcome and invite me in.
The people I love, the worship I adore, and the message I need.
Today I was reminded of the beauty of worshiping with believers and finding trust amongst faces you only see so often.
Thank you AU for giving me this safe haven.

Dawson's Creek

Any time I had free time that was not spent with friends or family, then you could find me watching Dawson's reek on my Netflix. I thought I would watch one episode and be done with it, but I fell in love with this show. Each of the characters are so unique and the love triangles pull you in.
Dawson Leery
The boy next door who sees the best in everyone and is waiting for true love. He's a bit too sappy for me, but he's kindness is endearing.

Joey Potter
Love her! I relate to her the best. Sassy, blunt, and always underestimating herself. I now know why people love Katie Holmes.

Jen Lindley
Wild child, with a sweet heart. She completely goes crazy in the first couple of seasons, but then you watch her transform into a deep high school teenager.

Pacey Witter
I am in love! He's the semi-bad boy with family issues, but is constantly searching for his true love.
Watch the show! I promise its worth your time!

January List

I felt encouraged from reading another blog to make a list of 10 things I want to do for the month of January. Seeing as I have somewhat of a late start, this may be a bit ambitious of me.

4.) Drink more water
5.) Make at least one pinterest meal.
6.) Save more, spend less.

People

People are a passion of mine.
I love meeting new people, discovering who they are, and learning the uniqueness of them.
I have been blessed over break to build on friendships and relationships with family and co-workers.

I found this quote on Pinterest and thought it explained my passion for people.

I am reminded to cherish each and every person for they were created with a purpose; even those who drive me the most crazy.

Winter Break

Typical winter breaks for most college students include relaxing, shopping, lots of family time, movie time, and whatever else. My winter break consists of lots of working, little sleep, and squeezing in as much friend and family time I have available.

This week I have two days off.
Two fabulous days of sleeping in, hanging with friends, and actually relaxing on my break.
It is time to also prepare myself for the next 5 months.
5 months of new beginnings, endings, last semester of classes on Anderson's campus, and trying to make as many memories of my Senior Year of Undergrad.

I am excited to see what will happen in these next 5 months.
2013 is sure to be one of the greatest years and I cannot wait to share it with you all.

Crafty Safty!

Do not ask me what safty means because I have no idea; it was the only thing I could think of that rhymes with crafty.

I wanted to share with you a project I worked on while snowed in on Boxing Day.

I started by taping out the anchor on the white canvas with blue tape.
Then I painted over it in black paint.
After that dried, I began the tedious work on writing out 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

It was a lot of hard work, but I love the turnout and the symbolization it means for me!

Memory Box

So over the years I have placed memories into a box in my closet.
Since I am preparing to move in August, I decided I would spend part of break clearing out my closet and finding the things I really do not need.
In my memory box, I found some great laughs and  was reminded on how creative writing was a passion of mine. Here are some of the things I wrote over the years:

It's amazing how one person could change your life
It's amazing how one word could change the way you live
But what'struly amazing is how much we could change each other
You listen to a song and you see the lyrics
But what did you think?
What did you hear?
You hear a speaker and you read the words
But what do you hear?
What do you see?
Do you have a choice in this world?
Or does someone choose it for you?
Do you have ears to hear from?
Or do you let people listen for you?
Do you have a voice to speak?
Or do you let someone speak for you?
What am I try to say?
If we do not choose, what matters?
If we do not listen, what matters?
If we do not speak, what matters?
Why are you here?

Being broken is just a healing process-me

Life is not always about happiness. Sometimes it's about grief and sadness but what can you do if you rely on the bad times to make up for the time you wasted?

Go out and be all you can be. Do the thinks you've dreamed of because each day is another treasure just waiting to be found.

Now this last one I believe I created, but cannot remember for sure:
What Guys Should or Shouldn't Do
1.) Telling them other girls like you just to make them jealous does not make us jealous.
2.) Do not talk about their muscles.
3.) Kissing us in front of your friends does not impress them and just makes us not want to kiss you more.
4.) Anything that makes your girlfriend into a prize is prohibited.
5.) Bodily functions are not funny.
6.) Give her positive comments when it comes to hair/weight/clothing. Basically unless things are hideous do not say anything when she asks. Stick a Twix in it!
7.) No mean jokes about her friends and if you hate them don't show it, just ignore them.
8.) Do not make rude and inappropriate comments about other women or the girl you are with, it will not impress her or make her like you more.
9.) Be POLITE!
10.) Compliment her at all times.
11.) But make sure they are real compliments and not lies. She will see right through them,
12.) Do not mention your exes.
13.) Risky things like driving fast and smoking pot are not impressive. Neither is jumping over tall things.
14.) The little things matter the most.
15.) Do not forget important dates. Such as anniversaries, birthdays, valentines day, etc.
16.) Like her for who she is and not what she is or what she looks like.
17.) Always be her friend first and her boyfriend second.
18.) Pay attention to her when you're around your friends.
19.) Make her feel like the most beautiful girl in the room.
20.) Invite her to join you and your friends in activities you participate in with them. Don't leave her out.

I don't know what to do with these people today. Hooking up with boys and giving themselves away, but whatever happened to saving yourself for that one guy who's gonna stay forever.
And what about the social status. People trying to be cool and being who they're not. What happened to sticking out and being yourself instead of faking people out and being who you're not.
What's wrong with this world our society has changed taking roles of celebrities and changing our ways for the people who don't even care and the people who will never be there.

Oh how time changes us.

2013

Yes, I am participating in the cliché New Years/2013 post.
I have to! I have so much to look forward to this year:
Graduation
Seattle
England (Possibly)
Two degrees!

And the list I am sure will continue to be added to.

I also did make some resolutions this year.
I want to be more spontaneous and do things on a whim.
I also want to have caffeine in moderation. I think I am a caffeine junkie. I really do not need as much as I consume.
I also want to take advantage of the campus gym as after 5 months I will have to buy a membership for the rest of my life.
And finally, I want to become the prayer warrior I used to be. I have always believed in the power of prayer, but my prayers have been lacking as of lately.
