What I will miss about AU

Today I was thinking about the community I have been involved in and how much I would miss not only the community, but the daily activities I have involved myself in at the school.

Here is what I will miss:
1.) Mocha Joe Freezes: The campus coffee shop, Mocha Joe's, is what keeps my going. I found this drink Freshman year and typically only get this drink from Mocha's. I get it so much that two of the barista's known my order as soon as I walk in. Now I am moving to the city where Starbucks started and I cannot stop thinking about how much I will miss this little drink.
2.) Dances: Freshman year I remember how excited I was to go to my first square dance and little did I know dances happened almost once a month at AU. Since I am moving away, I will miss many weddings to dance at so I am hopping Seattle has some unknown dancing planned for me.
3.) The wrap line: Yes, I can make my own wrap or sandwich anywhere else, but I love waiting in the line and then choosing each thing I want on my sandwich. I love the Raven Haven wraps.
4.) Required Chapel: I have complained about having to go to Chapel a lot, but I realize how accountable it has kept me in my faith. I like having Sunday mornings to sleep so it has been nice to have two opportunities each week to have a church experience each week.

5.) Miller Chapel: This is located in our school of Theology and it is a cute little chapel that is the best place to worship. I will miss playing my guitar in there.

6.) The Valley: Yes, it floods every time it rains and it is filled with hills that are hard to walk after a good work-out, but I love the way our campus comes together around the valley. I will miss shouting at my friends or watching students sprint to their classes.

I could probably go on for hours, but these are just a few of the things I will miss after I graduate in May.

March List

Well, I would say I accomplished almost the same amount I did for January and I had fewer items this month. I think partial blame goes to my memory and the fact I forgot I even made some of these my goals. I plan on posting my list on my fridge so I remember them next month.

1.) Stick to my health challenge (which I will share with you in my next post) This last week was the hardest with giving up caffeine for two days. I went 8 months without it, why is two days so difficult?
2.) Eat Breakfast at least twice a week (specifics are always helpful for me): I did a partial cross off as I did that for two weeks.
3.) Invite one person over for dinner each week: Completely failed this one, but does going out to eat with friends count?
4.) Try hair-up do's. I really got into wearing my hair down a lot and I now have an excuse to try new hair styles now that my hair is long.: I was really into the little bun on top of my head this month, but I did not do any crazy-cool hair-do's. Hopefully I can next month. I did cut my a few inches off though!
5.) Have a positive attitude about work. Lately anything having to do with work just puts me in a bad mood.: This is another partial because I cannot remember how my attitude has been towards work. Dang memory.
6.) Take more pictures:This was from the month of January, but as you can see from previous posts I took more pictures than I took all last year!

March List
1.) Actually watch March Madness this year or at least one game!
2.) Do a Seventeen magazine toning workout each week.
3.) Wear my hair up!
4.) No caffeine! Yes, super over-achieving here, but I think I can do it.
5.) Invite a friend over for dinner each week.
6.) Eat out less- Qdoba, we can no longer meet once a week even though I love you so much!
7.) Blog 4 times a week and participate in blog hopping events.

Weekend Update

I thought I would share with you the fun I had this weekend.

On Friday night, my friends was going to come down and visit me, but she ended up getting sick. We had planned on having a super girly night so I decided I would still do it. This included:

Nail time! I did this three times this week, just a little obsessed with my nails.

Movie time and YouTube time. I am so addicted to Ellen YouTube video's and die laughing every time.

And also a face mask! Literally took ten minutes and my skin has felt great.
Before
 After

I also spent the night blogging about my Encore event, so here is another pictures to show you all those that performed.

Sunday night, I hung out with my boyfriend and watched Oscar's. He decided to wear his Bane mask and make joke's about how there would not be a 40 minute blackout during the Oscar's. Thank God there wasn't because it is already too long of a show.

I also forgot to mention that he took both of our ballots and highlighted the winners for the entire show. This guy should be an Oscar's Judge because he got a lot right, and lot more than me right which means I lost the bet.

Here's to the freakin' weekend!

Encore: British Invasion

Last Weekend my friends and I had the opportunity to participate in our school event called Encore. This is an event where you tryout two weeks before and if you make it you perform live in front of the student body. The theme for this show was British Invasion. I first thought: "This is meant to be! My mother is British and we can do S Club 7!" S Club 7 was my favorite band growing up.

This is the album cover of their 3rd cd.

If you have never heard of them, give them a listen. They are a great 90/2000's band.
We covered their song Bring It All Back off their first album.
And here is our debut:

I am in the red pants and white top.

It was seriously one of the most nerve-wracking and amazing experience. I performed with my best friends and was supported by amazing friends and family. I also crossed it off my college bucket list!

Here is my favorite song from the night; it gave me chills!

Crafty-Craft-Craft

Are you annoyed with my Valentine's Day talks yet?
Well if you are-sorry-I'm-not-sorry!
I went crafty and made my boyfriend date coupons, cards, or ideas for V-day.
I also bought him pizza for dinner-double points for me!

I have heard a lot about this website called datevitation and it looks very cool, but unfortunately I am a poor college student so I had to go the cheap way and make my own.

Here are the coupon/cards I chose to use:
Coffee Break
1 hours of uninterrupted free time
A session of truth or dare
One revealing fact: My biggest dream
One revealing fact: What I love most about you
One revealing fact: My deepest desire
Redbox rental of YOUR choice
Back Massage
Board Game/Card Night
Pick your favorite meal and I'll cook it
Dessert of your choice

My roommate was the one to thank for this idea so in honor of her, I have decided to make her one as well. Here is her list:
Redbox of your choice
20 minutes of silence from me
20 minutes of listening
Dinner of your choice
Do the dishes
Ice-cream break
Mani-pedi done by me
Servant for a day
Justin Beiber Seranade
Prank Call Time
Truth or Dare session
No boyfriend talk for an hour
Do your laundry.

Love being crafty! Any ideas I can add for next time?

Belated Valentines

So no one told me Valentines Day is actually really cool.
I have worked every Valentines Day for the last five years at Pipers.

In 2009, I went on my first date on Valentine's Day. That date consisted of seeing Taken. Yes, super romantic, but will forever be remembered as my first official Valentine's day date.

In 2010, I went on a second Valentine's Day date to see the movie Valentine's Day. Super cheesy, I know. I actually ended up hating this movie and now I own it. I wouldn't say I love it, but movies with a ton of big names in it is pretty cool.

Three years later, I went on my third Valentine's Day date. I was totally spoiled this year. This man I am dating went all out. Not only did he do good by giving me gifts (a.k.a. my love language), he also completely surprised me. As I was riding my bike home on Monday, which is the day we celebrated since I had to work on Thursday, I had this little hope that I would be surprised with a flower, but if Psychology has taught me anything you typically do not get something without asking for it. Well boo-yah Psychology! My man walked into my house with his hands behind his back and I got this giddy-little girl smile on my face because I knew he was holding a surprise behind his back.

FLOWERS! Not just a flower, but multiple flowers.

And that's not it, he also gave me a cute little teddy bear and this decorated card.

And to follow my Valentine's tradition that I did not know was a tradition, we went to see Safe Haven. Let me give you some background on how excited I was to see this movie. I read the book last year and cried! I am not into Nicholas Sparks, but I loved this book. Then I read it again in November because I knew it was coming out and wanted to read it because of how good it is. So to get my point across- I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO SEE IT! Let alone my boyfriend agreed to see it with me.

By the end of the movie, this girl was not happy. If you have read the book, prepare yourself as you may not agree with the directors interpretation of it. I was super disappointed and bummed the movie was not as good as the book.

Overall, it was the best Valentine's I have celebrated so far. Movies, flowers, and surprises! Happy V-day to me!

Mi amiga's

So no one told me that the 5 months leading up to graduation would be filled with mini-mental break down moments of realizations.

Realizations of knowing you will have to say goodbye to your best friends.
Realizations of knowing you will have to pack up your entire life and move across the country.
Realizations of knowing you will have to continue to take out student loans and be forever in debt.
Realizations of knowing you will have to start over at a new school and make friends...again.

I never realized how much I took it for granted that I have always been within an hour of my best friends or in a room right next to them. The sisterhood of the traveling pants did not prepare me for this. Now, the Hills did, but they also prepared me for a butt-load of drama that I never wanted.

Excuse me, but why do they not tell you this during Freshman Orientation:
"Oh, and just so you know- those people we keep telling you are going to be your future bridesmaids and the friends you will go on awesome adventures with- yeah you will all decide to live in different states hours away from each other and will probably only see them once a year if that."

I think that's some pretty important information to share with freshman Rachel, Tessa, and Michelle.

All of us find ourselves saying "you're leaving me" or "next year during this time we will all be in different states."

All true, but all so hard to hear. The month of April for the three of us will probably consist of a ton of tears. And let's not even talk about when we all have to say goodbye to each other.
Let's face it besties-we're going to suffer from puffy eyes for three months!

Take More Pictures!

One of my goals for this month was to take more pictures and I have!

Here are some to look at!

Just me and my best friend from third grade loving on each other! We will both be West Coast Girls in a couple of months.

 Cheap Thrills and Encore Weekend!
Remember how I mentioned we made it into Encore a few weeks back, well the bottom picture is me covered in stage makeup. It sure is fun to wear red lipstick, but it is definitely a shocker to see it on yourself when you usually only wear mascara.
And yes, I do realize my face is in each of these pictures. I just like celebrating when I look good. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Community

In the four years I have attended AU, we have only lost two students on our campus and one of those students lost his life last night. I am always shocked at how fast the news can circulate, but I am even more shocked that I did not recognize the names of these individuals when told. AU is small compared to a public school; it's also a school where you may know most, but not all. It's a school where community is present.

I've been waiting to write this post for a week now about the community I will be leaving in the next couple of months. I was ready to talk about entering a new community and holding on to an old, but I think I have been thinking of community wrong.

Community is praying for each other without having to know the details.
Community is coming together to love on each other even if you never even said a word to that individual.
Community is sharing life even when you walk across that stage and accept that diploma.

Community continues on; it does not stop, it follows you wherever you go.
I am thankful to have entered a community that will mourn, love, and share with me whenever I need or want it.
I am especially thankful during these times to have a community that relies on each other and the strength of the lord to overcome the loss of a friend, brother, and neighbor.

It is so cliche, but life is short and we need to cherish the moments we have left.
So here is to cherishing my last semester at AU and sharing it with my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Send a prayer out for our community as its a tough time for us.

Happy V-Day!

Happy Valentines Day Ya'll!
(Yes, I am pretending I can get away with country twang)

This year I am celebrating with my 5th and final year at the Pipe.

And then eventually with my boy on Monday seeing SAFE HAVEN!

I think you needed the caps to understand just how excited I am.

I do not know how this whole Valentine's day thing is supposed to work, but if it means convincing you boyfriend to see a chick-flick then I am all for it!

Have fun loving on all those around you! Your friends, family, neighbors, or strangers!

Who comes first?

Do you ever just have those days that are okay and then take a huge turn for the worse?
Well, I had that day a few days ago. It resulted in my crying some annoying tears that just made my eyes puffy when I woke up. I had not cried in a long time. Most of the time I only cry because of a movie now which is weird since I used to be known to cry at the drop of a pen. Okay, as I am writing this I am realizing I cried last Friday because of being reunited with my two best friends, but this is besides the point. Anyways, I woke up the next day still feeling down and upset.

I was preparing myself to feel this way all day until I got the idea to read a devotional. What better way is there to start your day then with a word from God? And that is when it hit me. I have not started my mornings with God in a long, long, long time. This summer I was great at reading my daily devotional and it typically created a positive attitude in me. God has been on the back-burner in my life and I am ashamed to admit it.

I probably need God more than I have ever needed him in my life. I am about to close one book and open another. I will begin and end relationships, say tough goodbye's, and welcome new hello's. I will have to learn how to lean on him and be constantly reminded of his provision.
So I start the rest of my day of with this prayer:

"Lord, keep my eyes, heart, and mind open to what you have for me. Allow me to see what you see, to feel what you feel, and to think how you think."

Spend some time with the big man today; he misses you.

This issue called Rape

To know where the inspiration from this blog came from, follow the link below to see:

I've never really been  person to speak about controversial subjects, but reading this piece has really opened my eyes. As fashion trends change, we see that covering your body up is becoming something that is not necessary. The trends are changing, but being mistaken for the wrong thing. I was over-listening to a conversation where a guy said, "Well, she was asking for it." He was speaking in regards to her clothing choice. She was wearing a short skirt and very tight top and to him that meant she was asking for it. Who believe this? Because of what I wear, I am sending a message to sexually assault me or saying please touch me?

Modesty-it is a word not every girl is raised to know what it means. My mother and father, along with my church did a great job at presenting modesty and what it means. But not everyone has a person to say that their clothing choice affects how someone perceives them. And now it is being used against them.

Modesty is just one side of the issue, the other side is this idea of the male population deciding that it is okay to pursue the act of rape. It's becoming more common and is not going away. Are we teaching the younger generation about the danger? And where is the protection for girls? When are we teaching them self-defense and how to use their words as a weapon? Maybe it's just me, but I am convicted to be a voice for these girls and to teach them what is right and what is wrong. No girl should ever be treated as Amy was in the article. No girl should be raped.

I guess the point of this was just to open your eyes as to what is going around. It is so easy to get up in our lives and have the mindset of "I don't know of this happening so it's not important." I think we are generation who can change and will change. Here is an issue we can try and change.
Especially us females who think about the world our future daughter may grow up in. Let's make it a better and safer place for them!

Birthday Week

It is my birthday week which usually means I talk about myself a lot and celebrate for the rest of the month.
What I am looking forward to:
1.) Gifts- I took the 5 love language quiz and gifts are my number one love language. It sounds selfish but its what means love to me!
2.) Mi fiesta! I am having a party on my actually birth date day and I am excited to celebrate with friends.
3.) Karaoke- There will be karaoke at my party and I am so excited to sing crazy with my friends.
4.) Encore- One of my goals for this year was to try-out for encore again and hopefully make it. On Friday, our group found out we made it and will be performing in two weeks! Seriously jumped up and down for about an hour.
5.) Family time- I am going home to work this weekend and am excited to see my family again.
6.) Cake- and hopefully with ice cream!
I love birthdays (especially mine)! If it is your birthday month, live it up! You only celebrate this age once!

Same Love

During the summer I shared my thoughts on same love when the conflict between Chick-fil-a and the homosexual community occurred.

This week I have been reminded of how ever present this battle is in my life. I am an adult learning what I believe to be true or fair and discovering what I am going to support and what I am not.

I am a Christian so I am supposed to believe in the love of man and woman, not man and man or woman and woman. Yet, here I stand torn. This is my faith view and while I love God, does that mean I have to have this view as well?

I always come back to the fact I am not the one to judge and I choose to love.
I choose to love same love couples and wish the best for them. I choose not to add to the controversy by bashing one side or the other. I choose to love the individual and the fact they were created by a greater being.
I choose love.

Love is patient, love is kind.
That's what it comes down to for me.

Feel free to listen to this video.

The Seattle School

I got two emails this week that shook me awake.
One was an email about a website called Matriculating to The Seattle School.
Wait just one second! I still have to graduate from AU! Is it so real that I am still at school here and am planning my life for another school? I am a little freaked out!
Second, I received an email with a new email address.
Seriously? Hold your horses! I thought I got to use my good old rdjones@anderson.edu address for the rest of my life. Isn't that what happens when you go to college? You keep your email address forever?

Really, it's not big deal. I am just going to go sit in the corner and bawl my eyes out for a while and let it sink in that I am actually graduating in a few short months and then starting another three years of schooling. (Yes, that is the longest sentence I have ever written and it is probably a run-on)

It's only February and I already miss AU.

14 Years of Long Distance Love

There is a special man in my families life who has been loving us from a distance for a while now.
He is a man I remember through the memories of others as I was too young to retain the time we spent together. Though death has separated us it is funny to feel like I know him so well. I see him in my brothers face, I hear his personality from my nan, and I see his love demonstrated through my mother.

I remember the day of his death as the words "He's gone came" out of my grandmother's voice. You could hear the defeat, sadness, and loss in her voice. You could see the pain in my mothers tears. But my grand-dad's love shown down on the day of his funeral. I remember the snow falling and creating snow men with my uncles. At the time, it seems so wrong to find beauty and fun in a day that mourns death, but I am reminded on the first of February each year that life should be celebrated. Tears may come and longing will succeed, but his life will always be cherished and remembered so lovingly.

We are all thinking of you today grand-dad!
Can't wait to join you some day!
