So did I tell you I have a boyfriend?

In case you did not know, I did some dating when I moved to Washington.
And by did some, I mean quite a few.
My first few weeks were plan-less and meeting new people sounded like fun so I took a risk and tried OkCupid! after a friend had suggested it.

To save my boo's identity a little bit, I will call him B*.
B* and I started off texting and he asked me to hangout twice before I finally said yes the third time. We met at Red Robbin because I was craving myself some sweet potato fries.
When he walked in, I was first shocked at how tall he was. I'm 5'2 and B* is at least 6'2. A giant compared to me. He also looked like a southern boy which you do not see many of them out here so I was instantly loving him. Did I mention he has red hair? Yeah, I was in heaven.

So dinner started and the boy sure knows how to talk. It was the most naturally flowing conversation and I loved it. It wasn't me having to do all the "get to know you" work. He actually wanted to get to know me. From dinner we went to Alki beach to grab some ice cream. I was freaking out about his awesome ride and I am sure he was just trying to get me to look up so he could see my face.

He drove me home like any gentleman would do and then met my roommate which proceeded to even more talking. Our second date did not go so well, but we won't go there. Thanks to his lovely mother who talked some sense into him, he gave me another chance and we've been pretty inseparable since.

And here's why:
1.) The boy loves the laugh I make that I think would scare any man away. He keeps trying to get me to laugh like that again because he thinks its cute.
2.) He will race me to doors so that he can open them for me because he knows I sometimes am too independent to let him do it.
3.) He won't let me quit school even though some days I highly consider it.
4.) The boy talks! I mean he is really good at this and not in a bad way. He actually enters into deep conversations with me because he wants too. No teeth-pulling here.
5.) He acts like a southern boy all the time. I love it!
6.) Did I mention he has red hair? I am such a sucker for the red-heads.
7.) I have cowgirl boots and he has a cowboy hat. Could we be any more perfect?
8.) The boy is honest to a T. Even if I don't ask, he is going to tell me. Yes, sometimes it shocks me but then I laugh and remind myself how nice it is to have someone so straight-forward like me.

I could go on and on, but I think that's enough sap for today.

Blind Date Night

A few years ago my best friends and I participated in our first blind date experience. It was only supposed to be the three of us, but then it expanded into 9 individuals with blind dates. That's a total of 18 people altogether and it was crowded!

For some odd reason, we decided to do it again and keep it to a smaller size this time. While it was not just the three of us, we were able to limit it to 5 blind dates. We spent a week and a half scrambling around trying to find each other dates and I just want to say we did a great job for most of it being last minute. Most dates were found the day before the event or the actual day. We are great!

Overall, this was the best blind date experience I have had. We all had a great time and it seemed much more relaxed compared to our first time. It's sad to think we won't have very many opportunities to do things like this together anymore, but I am so grateful we could do it one last time together.

We started off the date by grabbing some dinner at Fireside Grill which was delicious. Burgers, wings, and French fries. How can you go wrong?! Then we headed to the batting cage which is where all the pictures to come are from.

We hit those balls and laughed as many of us missed some as well.

And this is the whole group! 5 dates and one odd man out, my awesome brother who just wanted to come for the batting cages.

I know blind dates sound scary, but if you do it the way we do they are a lot of fun.
Go try a group blind date and remember to have fun!

Dating: Should you choose to date or others?

The other week I was talking with my best friend about dating and she states:
"Rach, you really aren't very good at picking out guys to date; you know what you want, but you tend to not pick guys like that."

And so it got me thinking. Are we the best determiners of who we should date or should we rely on those close to us to decide?

I think its something to consider. Your friends are the people who hear you talk about what you want in your future husband/boyfriend/fling. They also know who you are as an individual. Maybe we shouldn't just let any friend choose, but I think your best friends could probably do a great job.

Not that all the guys I have dated have been complete duds, but I have made some lousy choices. And I'm guilty of going back for round 2, meaning the second chance card which just reminds me of the reason I ended it in the first place. Oh yeah, I am also that girl who typically ends the relationship. And I usually know within the first week of the relationship whether it will work out and then continue to talk myself out of my intuition and say I can make it work.

I think that is why maybe we should rely on others to help us with our decision in who we date. They say we are our own worst enemy and I definitely am when it comes to dating. Everyone wants to be loved and cared for, and I tend to make sacrifices to receive that even though that's not what I want.

So this is what I am doing to fix this.
1.) Actually be friends with the guy first for a month or two. Friendships can bloom into relationships and the time helps you learn about the other person.
2.) Listen to what my friends think. My best friends are very perceptive and tend to be right about the relationship I am considering.
3.) Do not budge on religion. As much as my faith has been rocked for the past few years, I still want a guy who is going to be the spiritual leader for my future family. I want the guy who grabs my hand at dinner to pray before we eat or suggests I pray when I am stressed.
4.) Date the guy who calls you instead of texts you. Stupid technology has changed the dating world and I am over the texting phase. I want to hear the guys voice and tone so I actually know what he is saying.
5.) Listen to my intuition. It's usually right!

Maybe this doesn't work for you and maybe it doesn't work for me, but it's worth the try!
